Location: Amaala, KSA

Industry: Construction & Infrastructure

Client Overview

L&T was awarded a prestigious contract to deliver power and water supply for Amaala development under Red Sea Global. To accelerate execution and ensure seamless operations, L&T needed to establish on-site accommodations for the project team, strategically located adjacent to the worksite. This setup enabled efficient coordination, minimize downtime, and facilitated the timely completion of project milestones.

Challenges

  • Balancing Aesthetics with Prefabrication: Despite being a temporary camp facility, L&T Amaala prioritized creating an aesthetically appealing environment with a comfortable ambiance for staff and workers. The challenge was to design a prefabricated structure that visually resembled a conventional building while maintaining efficiency in fabrication and installation.
  • Procurement and Logistics Constraints for External Cladding: Securing a steady supply of powder-coated external wall panels proved challenging, as local suppliers were unable to meet the tight delivery schedule. This created a bottleneck since the units couldn’t be dispatched to the site without the panels and installing them on-site would have led to increased costs and potential project delays. Efficient coordination between procurement and logistics became critical to maintaining project timelines.
  • Remote Project Location and Logistics Planning: The L&T Amaala site, situated between Duba and Al Wajh, required meticulous planning to ensure the timely delivery of modules, manpower, and materials. The remote location posed logistical challenges, demanding well-coordinated transportation and supply chain strategies to avoid disruptions and keep the project on schedule.

Solution

  • Innovative Prefabrication and Modular Design: The design of the G+1 accommodation buildings incorporated cantilevered corridors on both sides, connected by staircases at each end. The modular units were fully assembled in the factory, while the structural components for the walkways and staircases were installed on-site. This approach maximized the benefits of prefabrication and allowed for efficient assembly while maintaining a conventional building appearance.
  • Strategic Procurement to Overcome Supply Chain Delays: To address delays in sourcing powder-coated external wall panels, the procurement team visited China to find alternative suppliers who could meet the project’s strict delivery requirements without compromising quality. This proactive measure ensured the timely availability of materials and kept the project on track.
  • Dedicated Logistics Coordination for Efficient Execution: A logistics coordinator was appointed to manage communication and coordination between internal teams, the client, transporters, and customs. This role was essential for ensuring the smooth and timely delivery of modules to the remote site, reducing disruptions, and improving overall project efficiency.
